Description
North Kilworth House is a small country house built in 1888 by architect A E Purdie for J B N Entwisle. The house is constructed of brick and rendered brick with ashlar dressings, topped with hipped slate roofs and various rendered chimney stacks. It features a moulded plinth, ground and first floor cill bands, a moulded cornice with a pulvinated frieze, and a plinth parapet adorned with corner ball finials.
The south front of the house has two storeys and consists of nine bays, with a slightly projecting three-bay centre that is topped by a pediment displaying a coat of arms. The ground floor has nine tall plain sash windows with canopies and moulded surrounds, alternating between segmental and triangular pediments. The upper floor features nine smaller sash windows with similar surrounds.
On the west front, there are six bays, with an off-centre, slightly projecting entrance bay that includes a projecting porch. This porch is supported by rusticated pilasters and features a cornice with a pulvinated frieze and a panelled parapet with corner ball finials. The round-headed entrance arch, which has a keystone, is supported by single Ionic columns. Inside, there is a round-headed inner doorway with a similar moulded arch, supported by single Corinthian pilasters, leading to part-glazed double doors with a plain fanlight. To the left of the entrance, there are three tall plain sash windows, and to the right, two more, all with moulded surrounds and alternating pediments, with the left side including canopy boxes. The upper floor has six similar, though smaller, sash windows with matching surrounds.
To the north, there is a lower brick service wing with a hipped slate roof, overhanging eaves, and various sash and panelled doors with moulded surrounds. The interior retains many original features, including doors, fireplaces, a staircase, and an oval billiard room. There is also a contemporary conservatory attached to the house. The property is included for its group value.
