Description
The Gillstead is a cottage dating from the late 16th century to the 17th century, with some parts refaced in the 19th century. It features a timber-framed structure with whitewashed brick nogging and a thatch roof, which has whitewashed brick stacks at the right ridge and left end. The right gable is coped with brick. The building is 1½ storeys high and includes a 2-light horizontal sliding sash window. There is a door located in the wall extending from the left end. To the right of the window, a section of the wall has been refaced in brick, likely covering one bay of timber framing. On the left side, two bays of mostly intact square framing with braces are visible, consisting of six panels by two. Additionally, there is a lean-to at the left end with a Swithland slate roof and a 2-light casement window above.
