Description

Shawell Manor is a house built in the early 19th century, with some 20th-century alterations. It is constructed of red brick and features a hipped plain tile roof with two stacks and a plinth. The west front has two storeys and three bays, with a central doorway that includes a 1930s porch with double doors. On either side of the doorway are single glazing-bar sash windows. Above the doorway is a slightly smaller central glazing-bar sash, flanked by single glazing-bar sashes similar to those below. All window openings have painted flat arches.

To the right, there is a single-storey wing from the 19th and 20th centuries, topped with a plain tile roof and a tall ridge stack. A flat-roofed projection to the left has a large late 19th-century tripartite glazing-bar sash, with a smaller late 19th-century glazing-bar sash to its left. To the right, set back beneath a short verandah, is a 20th-century doorway with a glazed door and side windows.

The east front has five bays and is 2½ storeys high in three bays to the left. The ground storey features, from left to right, two 2-light sliding sashes, a 2-light casement, and two 2-light casements, all with painted flat arches. Above this, there are two 2-light casements and a small plain sash to the right, all with painted flat arches. Just below the eaves, there are two 2-light sliding sashes, and to the right, set lower, is a 2-light casement with a painted flat arch. To the right is a small 20th-century addition with a part-glazed door and a small window.

Inside, the manor features several early 19th-century reeded doorcases and a staircase with a closed string, stick balusters, a ramped and wreathed handrail, and tapering vase newels.
