Description

The Old House is a mid-17th century house, altered and extended in the later 19th century. It is built of coursed squared stone with quoins and stone dressings, and has a Collyweston slate roof with a moulded stone ridge and end stacks. The house is arranged in an L-shape, with a gable to the left and a wing projecting forward on the right. The front elevation features four mullion windows: two 2-light windows in the gable, a 3-light window, a doorway with a four-centred arch, and a 3-light window on the projecting wing. The first floor has two 2-light windows in the gable, two dormers with similar 2-light windows set ¼ below the eaves, a similar dormer in the wing’s return, and two tiny, blocked 1-light windows in the wing gable. A 1½-storey and a 1-storey extension are located on the left end. Inside, there are arc chamfered spine beams with run-out stops, low, wide doorways and an inglenook. The building is included on the list for its group value.
