Description

Dale Farmhouse is a house dating from the late 17th century. It is built of fine coursed squared stone with a plinth, quoins, and stone dressings, topped with a hipped roof made of Collyweston slate, with some areas covered in buff plain tile and featuring moulded stone ridge stacks. The building has an H plan, with hipped roofs on the wings.

It stands two storeys high and has four stone mullion windows with hood moulds on the upper floor: three of these are three-light windows on the wings, and two are two-light windows in the centre. On the ground floor, there are three similar four-light windows and a doorway located to the centre right. The doorway features a shouldered moulded stone frame with a cushion frieze and cornice, and there is a 19th-century six-panelled door. Each wing has an inner return, and there is a stone tablet with a moulded horizontal oval on each wing and in the centre, making three in total. Above the central tablet is a blank stone tablet with a hood mould.

The rear facade is similar, with additional stone mullion windows at the ends. Inside, the house contains a stone bolection moulded fireplace, two fielded panelled doors with original hinges, and most of the original secondary staircase. The principal staircase is made of oak and has later painted balusters inserted, except for the last flight to the second floor, where it appears the balustrade was originally open. This may have been the case for the entire staircase, suggesting that carved panels were intended but never installed. Pevsner mistakenly refers to the building as 'Old Hall'.
