Description

No. 4 The Cross is a cottage that was formerly two dwellings, dated 1735 but with an earlier core. It is built from coursed ironstone rubble, with brick in the gable and a thatched roof. The building is one and a half storeys high, with each of the former dwellings having a two-unit plan and a central doorway, although the right-hand doorway is now blocked. There are flanking two-light casement windows, all featuring flat timber lintels. The upper level has four two-light casement windows in eyebrow dormers. The cottage has gable and axial stacks, and a coped gable on the left side. The gable apex is dated with the initials C.B.
