Description

1, The Cross is a cottage that was formerly a smithy, likely built in the 17th to 18th century but has undergone significant restoration. The exterior features a render over ironstone rubble and a thatched roof. It is 1½ storeys high with a long, low plan consisting of 8 bays. On the left side, three bays project to form a garage, which was the former smithy. The central section has a 2-light casement window and a recessed doorway, with a 4-light casement window in a dormer above. To the right of the main range, there is a doorway in a thatched porch, with 2 and 3-light casement windows to its left and a French window at the end. The upper section features three 3-light casement windows in eyebrow dormers. The building has gable and axial stacks and represents an encroachment on the former market place. It is included for its group value.
