Description

Hill Farmhouse is an early 18th-century farmhouse constructed of red brick with blue headers, sitting on a partial ironstone plinth. The front slope of the roof is covered with new concrete tiles, while the rear is finished with asbestos. The building is two storeys high and features five bays, although parts of the facade have been altered.

To the left, there is a section of 19th-century brickwork with blue diaper patterns and a 19th-century two-light casement window with a cambered brick head. A blocked 18th-century door with a red and blue brick cambered head is present, along with a 19th-century squared bay window projection. An inserted doorway to the right of the bay window has a flat timber lintel, and beyond this is an 18th-century three-light casement window with a cambered brick head.

On the first floor, there are three two-light wood mullioned and transomed windows, along with two smaller blocked openings, one featuring a steeply arched brick head. The house has gable and axial stacks, and a rear wing that is partially from the 19th century.

Inside, the farmhouse includes spine beams, an inglenook fireplace, and a very plain original stairway. The roof appears to predate the existing house, dating back to the late 16th or 17th century, and features wind braces on the principal rafters, which are reputedly smoke blackened.
