Description
The Gatehouse is a late 17th-century house, raised and altered in the 19th and 20th centuries. It is timber framed with plaster and brick infill, and has a Welsh slate roof with ridge and left-hand end stacks. Originally planned with three units, the right-hand unit was rebuilt in the 19th century. The front has a three-window range with three-light casement windows beneath segment-shaped heads. There is a cogged brick eaves cornice. The right-hand section has a lower roofline, a wagon entrance with double planked doors, and a door also beneath a segment-shaped head. On the left return, the timber framing is exposed, showing large panels with curved angle braces, queen posts, and V-struts above the collar. The interior retains other roof trusses, although some ties have been cut. There are also original ceiling beams and a winder stair. Despite later alterations, the building remains a generally intact example of a 17th-century vernacular farmhouse.
