Description

Numbers 51 and 53, Leicester Road are a pair of houses, originally one dwelling, built in the early 18th century. The houses are constructed of red brick with a Welsh slate roof and brick end stacks. They have brick coped gables with kneelers. The ground floor features a rendered plinth and brick band, with moulded brick eaves running along the top. There are two-and-a-half storeys, punctuated by nine six-over-six sash windows, each with a cambered lintel and keystone. Centrally, a wooden doorcase with a flat, bracketed canopy shelters a six-panelled door and overlight (at number 53). To the right of the door is a sashed canted bay window, which fills the space of two original windows. A second wooden doorcase, with a similar flat, bracketed canopy, gives access to a six-panelled door and overlight (at number 51). Above this door is a two-light casement window. A small gable extension projects to the right-hand side, and a single-storey extension is visible at the rear.
