Description

The Cottage is a 1710 brick cottage located on the north side of Hamilton Lane in Scraptoft. It is constructed of red and black brick in a chequer pattern, with a Welsh slate roof and brick ridge and left end stacks. The building features a nogged brick band and shouldered coped gables. It is two and a half storeys high, with three 19th-century casement windows on each floor: a three-light window, followed by a two-light window, then a three-light window. A part-glazed door sits centrally beneath the windows. The windows have cambered lintels. The left and centre first-floor window surrounds partially obscure “M.P. 1710” which is inscribed in black brick. An attic window with two lights and a brick inscription reading “W.B. 1710” are located on the left end. A single-storey extension with a Swithland slate roof is on the right end.
