Description
The barn at Hall Farm, built in 1749, is a Grade II listed structure. It features a granite and slate rubble stone plinth and end walls, with red brick side walls that incorporate black headers for decorative effect. The end walls are lined with brick, and there is a moulded brick cornice beneath a Swithland slate roof. The barn is positioned to the left of the farm entrance, with its gable facing the entrance. It consists of five bays that are roughly double storey height, supported by a tie and collar beam truss roof with angle struts and double purlins that are clasp jointed. Brick pilasters support the tie beams, and one of the beams is carved with the inscription 'Sir Joseph Danvers, Baronet, 1749'. The barn includes various openings and ventilation loops on the ends and sides, with large stable-type doors featuring cambered lintels located opposite each other halfway down the sides. The floor is bricked. This barn is of fine quality and remains almost unaltered.
