Description
No. 222 is a lodge built in 1838, located on Thurcaston Station Road in Rothley. The building features coursed and squared granite with stone dressings, rusticated quoins, and a Swithland slate roof, complete with ridge and rear stacks. It is designed in the Tudor style and has one storey. The ornamental barge boards adorn the gables and eaves. The entrance faces the drive, while the left side faces the road.
There is a gabled porch with three Tudor arches, which are now filled with a glazed door and windows leading to the main door. Above the porch is a tablet with a crest. To the right of the porch, there are two 2-light lattice casements with hood moulds, and a date is inscribed above them. On the left side, there is a 3-light lattice casement with a stone tablet carved with the Danvers-Butler arms in the gable. A similar 2-light casement is also on the left, along with a 3-light casement in a 20th-century extension at the rear.
Adjoining the lodge are a pair of gate piers made of rusticated granite blocks, which lead to the drive. This lodge was originally built as the entrance to Swithland Hall.
