Description

No. 7, Main Street is a house, likely originating from the early 18th century, that was altered and given a new facade in the 19th century. It was originally two cottages. The building has a timber frame, though much of this is now concealed by a brick exterior. Visible elements of the timber frame include the wall-plate, ends of the joists fixed to it, and a single central post resting on a padstone, all recessed within the brickwork. The Welsh slate roof is a later addition, built upon the original wall and replacing what was previously thatch. The house is two storeys high and follows a two-unit plan, with a later outshut appended to it. A doorway is situated in the gable wall, protected by a bracketed porch. The front elevation features two outer, three-light casement windows, and a single central window, all with arched brick heads. Traces of former openings can be seen in the brickwork. A second post and padstone are present in the rear wall. Inside, a roughly chamfered spine beam is visible.
