Description

Valley Cottage is a cottage dating from the 17th and 18th centuries. It is constructed of granite and slate rubble stone with brick dressings, brick nogged eaves, and a Swithland slate roof with rebuilt end stacks. The front elevation has two storeys and three three-light horizontal sliding sash windows. On the ground floor are a one-light casement, a three-light horizontal sliding sash, a doorway with a six-panelled door (with glazed top panels), and a further three-light horizontal sliding sash with top lights. On the left end is a two-window attic projection and a one-and-a-half storey extension with a one-light window on the front and end, accompanied by a small one-storey outshut. A one-storey outbuilding adjoins the right corner of the house. The rear displays further doors and windows, a small 20th-century bay window, and a one-storey wing. Inside, the cottage features an inglenook fireplace with a hood, chamfered beams (one with run-out stops), and some chamfered rafters.
