Description
This building is a shop with a storage loft located at No. 266 Braunstone Lane. It dates back to the 17th century and has been altered over time. The structure is timber-framed with whitewashed narrow brick infill, including some herringbone patterns. The right gable is partially rendered and whitewashed, and it features a Swithland slate roof. The building has two storeys and consists of one bay. The front of the shop has a shuttered window on the ground floor, a horizontal sliding sash window without glazing bars above it, and a boarded door to the right. The left gable displays an exposed truss with queen struts below the collar and small V-struts above. There is a 20th-century flat-roofed shop extension attached to the left gable, which is not considered of special interest, as well as a 20th-century brick house at the rear, also not of special interest. Inside the original building, there is a small moulded bracket and a stop-chamfered spine beam that supports the upper gypsum floor, along with traces of a blocked doorway in the right gable at the first-floor level. The 17th-century building is likely part of a larger structure that once extended further to the right.
