Description
The Village School, built in 1843, is designed in the Jacobean style. It is constructed of red brick with sandstone dressings and features a plain tile roof. The roof has stone-coped shaped gables with finials and a bellcote on the west gable. This single-storey building has a south elevation that includes three symmetrical bays on the right side, with a small central ogee gable that encloses a sunk panel carved with coats of arms and the date 1843. There are three 2-light recessed and chamfered mullion windows. To the left, there is an additional bay that includes a projecting porch with a shaped gable. The porch has a chamfered stone doorcase with a four-centred arch and two shields in sunk panels above, leading to a 20th-century door. The gable ends are adorned with large 4-light casement windows set under chamfered stone lintels.
