Description
St Wilfrid's is a house that dates from the 17th century, 18th century, and early 19th century. It features a timber frame with painted brick infill and rendered brick, topped with plain tile roofs. The building has a gable stack to the north, an external stack to the south, and one ridge stack. It stands two to three storeys tall, with the east elevation displaying three plus three bays. The lower part on the left shows exposed box framing with upward diagonal braces. The ground floor has a doorway to the left with a 19th-century panelled door and a bracketed hood, flanked by glazing bar sashes. To the right is another doorway with a raised and fielded panelled door and a rectangular traceried overlight, with a single light and two-light casements above. The mid-18th century range to the right features a doorway with a plank door and a 20th-century hood, alongside a three-light segment headed casement to the left, a similar two-light window to the right, and a segment headed doorway with a plank door and a small square window with fixed lights. The first floor has two two-light segment headed windows and a three-light window, while the top floor includes a four-light segment headed window with Yorkshire sliding sashes. The rear elevation has an early 19th-century Gothick window. Inside, there is an early 19th-century stick baluster open string staircase with a wreathed handrail, and a chimneypiece with an eared surround and dentil cornice. The sitting room features a 19th-century carved beam and two plaster relief panels over the doors, depicting putti making wine, likely from the early 19th century. The ante-room has a frieze of three antique profiles painted in low relief on canvas, also probably early 19th century.
