Description
Deep Dale Bridge Number 17 is a canal accommodation bridge located off Deep Dale Lane in Barrow-upon-Trent. It dates from the late 18th century and has undergone some repairs. The bridge is constructed of red brick with stone coping and features a single span with a towpath and a humped back. It has a segmental headed arch and swept wings that terminate in piers at all four corners. The repairs include voussoirs and parts of the eastern elevation and piers. The Trent and Mersey Canal, which this bridge serves, was built between 1766 and 1777 by engineers James Brindley and Hugh Henshall.
