Description

This is a bridge that carries a farm track over the Trent and Mersey Grand Trunk Canal, built around 1777 by engineer James Brindley. It is constructed of red brick, with some later repairs made using red and blue brick. The bridge features a single segmental pointed arch, and the walls curve out towards the ends, which have end piers. The plain parapet walls are ramped towards the center and topped with stone copings. On each side of the arch, there is an oval metal plaque displaying the bridge number. The Trent and Mersey Grand Trunk Canal was authorized by an act in 1766, opened to a point near Stafford in 1770, and completed in 1777.
