Description

Benby House Farmhouse is a rectory that has been converted into a farmhouse, dating from the 18th century and early 19th century. It is constructed of red brick and features a Welsh slate roof with brick gable stacks. The south side has stone coped gables and a parapet. The building is two storeys high and has a south elevation with two bays. On the ground floor, there are two canted bay windows with fixed small pane lights and French windows. Above these, there are two tripartite glazing bar sashes set under wedge brick lintels. A brick band runs along the base of the parapet.

On the east elevation, there is a broad porch supported by four Tuscan Doric columns. The round-arched doorway has a fluted surround and features a half-glazed 19th-century door with a fanlight that has intersecting glazing bars. To the right of the porch is a canted bay window, and above it are three glazing bar sashes under wedge brick lintels. The 18th-century rear wing includes a dentil cornice on the west side, a round-arched doorway with a fanlight and intersecting glazing, along with later window additions. Inside, the farmhouse boasts an open well staircase that is curved on its inner side, featuring an open string, stick balusters, and a wreathed handrail.
