Description
Short Hazels Farmhouse is a farmhouse built in the 17th century and early 19th century. It features coursed squared sandstone and red brick construction, topped with a plain tile roof that has brick gable stacks. The south gable has a moulded stone coping with plain kneelers. The building is two storeys high and has a T-plan layout.
The south wing, dating from the 17th century, is made of large blocks of sandstone and has a chamfered plinth. Its gable end elevation includes a doorway with a chamfered surround, massive jambs, and a lintel. Above the doorway is a single light window with a stepped and chamfered surround. The left return elevation features a blocked 3-light recessed and chamfered mullion window from the 17th century, a 20th-century doorway to the left, and a large segment-headed 3-light casement window with a brick arch to the right.
On the upper floor, there are three four-centred arched windows, with the outer ones blocked and the inner one partly blocked, containing a 20th-century casement. The rear of the farmhouse also displays similar four-centred arched windows. The early 19th-century brick range forms the head of the T and features segment-headed windows.
