Description

The range of outbuildings located to the south-west of Dronfield Woodhouse Hall is a group of farm structures dating from the mid-17th century, with additions from the 18th century and alterations made in the 20th century. The buildings are constructed from coursed squared coal measures sandstone, featuring ashlar dressings, quoins, coped gables with moulded kneelers, and are roofed with Welsh and stone slates.

This irregular 'U' shaped range consists of two storeys and eight bays, with advanced gabled sections at both ends; the south-eastern gable is contemporary with the main structure, while the north-western gable is an addition. The north-east elevation showcases a six-bay central range that includes two former full-height openings with quoined surrounds. One of these openings is now fully blocked and has three 20th-century windows within it, while the other is half blocked, with the upper half covered by a sliding door and two windows below. There is an inserted doorway on the south-eastern side with sliding gear and four ventilation slits above, along with four slits on the opposite side, two of which are blocked. To the right of the south-eastern double doorway, there is a single doorway with a quoined surround and a massive lintel beneath a relieving arch, featuring a plank stable door.

The advanced range at the south-eastern end has a blocked doorway on the inner face, with a quoined surround and a lintel leading to a first-floor taking-in doorway. The north-west range contains two blocked doorways, a stone staircase, and an inserted double doorway at ground level, with the staircase leading up to the gable end.

Inside, the south-eastern section has four bays with a double purlin roof supported by three collar and tie beam trusses that include windbraces. At the junction with the advanced range, a post supports the tie beam to the crosswing, with the tie beam braced from the post in three directions. At the end of the fourth bay, there is a full-height wall with a taking-in doorway to the first floor, while the remaining four bays feature single purlin construction with queen struts and windbraces to the principals.
