Description
The Wood Monument, located approximately 40 metres to the southwest corner of the Church of St James the Great in Glossop, is a graveyard monument dedicated to Samuel Wood of Talbot House and Moorfield, who died in 1869. It is constructed of ashlar stone. The base is square in shape and features a pronounced string course that rises above the epitaph panel, which is weathered above. This base supports an octagonal structure with pierced panels beneath a squat, weathered spire that is topped by an Iona cross. The monument encloses a rectangular grave, which includes a stone cross and low chamfered walling that is topped by iron railing.
