Description

The War Memorial on The Slopes in Buxton was built around 1920. It is made of ashlar stone and features bronze ornaments. The memorial has a two-step square base with a curved front that supports a rectangular base with a plinth and a projecting curved front. This front bears a bronze inscription that reads "PRO PATRIA, 1914+1918, 1939+1945." Above this is a tall obelisk adorned with a laurel band and topped with a pyramidal cap. The obelisk displays bronze panels on three sides, and at the front, there is a bronze figure of a winged angel holding a sword and brandishing a laurel wreath.
