Description

The Natural Mineral Baths, now serving as a tourist information centre, were built between 1851 and 1853 and altered between 1923 and 1924. Designed by Henry Currey, the building is constructed of ashlar gritstone with ashlar dressings, featuring a Welsh slate and partially glazed roof.

The exterior is a single storey with a street front that has five windows arranged in a 1:3:1 pattern. The projecting central section includes rusticated pilasters and set-back rusticated round arches, topped with an entablature and a parapet inscribed with "NATURAL MINERAL BATHS." The central round-headed doorway has double panel doors and a fanlight, flanked by single round-headed windows. The set-back wings also feature pilasters and rusticated round arches, each topped with an entablature and balustrade, and have a single round-headed window. All windows contain early 20th-century glazing.

Inside, the original layout is preserved. The entrance leads into a foyer, from which a central hall with a stained glass roof light can be accessed, along with rooms that radiate off of it. To the right of the entrance is access to the source of the spa water. The foyer also leads to a tiled corridor with two baths, one for males and one for females, both tiled. The female bath has a rounded end supported by seven cast-iron columns with guilloche railings, which support a glazed skylight above. The changing rooms include a communal area with wooden partitions and three small sunken individual baths, each served by a pair of cubicles. A doorway that is now blocked once connected to the Old Hall.
