Description
The Savoy Hotel, now comprising six flats and two suites of offices, was built in the early 19th century and has undergone 20th-century alterations and a rear extension. It is constructed of dressed and ashlar millstone grit with ashlar dressings, and has a hipped roof covered with Welsh slate, featuring tall stone stacks. The asymmetrical front facade curves across seven windows, with a projecting four-window range to the left, featuring curved corners with broad windows. The central two ground-floor windows have segment heads with keystones in a rusticated surround, while the curved outer windows have flat heads. The first floor has two windows within segmental arches with moulded imposts, with panels above the curved outer windows. The second floor features two windows in shouldered flush ashlar surrounds, linked at impost level, with panels above the curved outer windows. The third floor has two round-headed windows in flat-headed surrounds, with a narrow pair of sashes above each. The left return has blank panels to the ground floor and a 20th-century canted bay window to the left, with casement windows. Above this is a three-storey wooden canted bay window with a lead roof. The right return has a recessed two-window entrance with a projecting porch featuring round arches supported on columns and pilasters with a moulded cornice and plain parapet. A single sash window is present on each floor, with curved topped surrounds to the first floor, shouldered surrounds above, and round-headed surrounds to the top floor, except for the right block where the third-floor sashes are flat-headed and a circular window is present in the gable. The rear facade has irregular and plain fenestration. The interior has been altered and subdivided.
