Description

Thornsett Hey Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the 17th century, with an earlier core from the 16th century, and features 19th-century alterations and additions. The building is constructed of coursed rubble that is partly rendered and painted, topped with a stone slate roof and four brick gable stacks. The main front of the farmhouse, which dates from at least the 19th century, is two storeys high and has three bays. It includes a central half-glazed door flanked by single plain sash windows, with a similar window above and a single plain 20th-century casement.

To the southeast, there is a set-back three-storey side wing from the 17th century. This wing features a single glazing bar fixed light within a large 17th-century stone doorway, and to the right, there is a three-light partially blocked mullion window. Above this, there is a lost entrance flanked by a two-light and a three-light casement, both set in chamfered surrounds. Above these, there is another three-light casement.

Inside, the 17th-century rear section contains timber stud partitions across three floors and features three doorways that may date back to the 16th century or possibly earlier. Each floor has one doorway: the basement doorway has a depressed ogee head, the next has a four-centred head, and the top doorway has a pointed head.
