Description
Hogshaw Lane Viaduct is a railway viaduct built around 1890 for the Midland Railway Company. It is constructed from snecked millstone grit and coursed limestone rubble, featuring dressed stone quoins, keystones, and coping. The interior of the arches is made of red brick. The east face of the viaduct has 16 arches of varying spans supported by irregular piers, with the arch over Spring Gardens being skewed. The arches are adorned with rusticated voussoirs and keystones, and above them is a raised band topped with a plain coped parapet that has diminishing courses. The viaduct is reputed to be 320 meters long and carries the railway across the Wye valley as part of the Chinley to Ashbourne line.
