Description
The New Inn is a former hotel, now a public house, located in Buxton. It dates from the late 18th century or early 19th century and has undergone alterations in the 19th and 20th centuries. The front of the building features coursed and dressed millstone grit, while the rear is rock cut with ashlar dressings. It has a Welsh slate roof with stone stacks.
The exterior consists of three storeys with a plinth, a first-floor sill band, and wooden eaves. The front has a four-window range with an off-centre round-headed doorway set in a round outer arch, which is surrounded by pilasters and a stained glass fanlight that displays the words "New Inn" in a rusticated surround. To the right of the doorway is a single plain sash window, and to the left are two plain sashes, all of which have 20th-century canopy hoods and shutters. Above these are four plain sashes, and above those are three small plain sashes and a blind window over the door.
The rear of the building features an irregular four-window front, with a door to the left, followed by two plain sashes and four toilet windows. Above this section are five irregularly spaced sashes, and above again are four further sashes, including a double sash to the right. The eaves cornice is bracketed and raised to the right, with a gabled dormer above that contains plain sashes. The interior has been significantly altered.
