Description

This drinking fountain, also known as a well head, dates from the early 19th century and is located in Buxton's Market Place. It is made of weathered dressed stone and features a bowl-shaped urn with a rolled top, which sits on a stepped base. The urn is supported by a square stone pedestal that has a cornice at the top. The pedestal base has recessed panels on three sides; the front panel is arched and may have originally included a raised motif and the date 1840. The rear of the pedestal is constructed from coursed stone blocks.
