Description

The Sun Inn is a coaching inn that has been converted into a public house. It likely dates from the mid-18th century and has undergone alterations and extensions in the 19th and 20th centuries. The building features rendered and incised painted dressed stone for the door and window surrounds, a Welsh slate roof, and four stone chimneys.

The structure has a three-unit plan and stands two storeys high with an irregular four-window front. It has a painted plinth and an off-centre doorway with a panel door set in a painted surround with a hood above. On either side of the doorway are single plain sash windows in painted surrounds. To the right, there is a similar sash window followed by a doorway with a painted surround and hood. To the left, there is a large segment-headed carriage arch with double plank doors. Above this, a pair of large plain sash windows in painted surrounds is flanked by similar single sashes, and to the left, there is a single through-eaves raking dormer with a plain sash.

The rear elevation has an irregular five-window front arranged in a 3:2 pattern. A lean-to on the left has an off-centre plank door with two casement windows to the left and a single plain sash to the right. Above, there are two plain sashes and a smaller sash to the right. A gabled wing to the right features a flat-headed carriage arch, and above it, there is a plain sash to the right and a former loft doorway that has been converted into a casement window. The interior has not been inspected.
