Description
The Market Cross in Buxton is a structure that likely dates back to the 15th century. It is made of weathered stone and features a rectangular tapering shaft with shallow rounded projections at the top. The cross stands on a tapered block and a stepped base. Originally located at Cockerd, off Palace Road, it was moved to the center of the Market Place in 1813 to align with the front of the Town Hall when the Market Charter was granted. It was relocated to its current position in the 20th century.
