Description
39 Main Street is a house located in Breaston, dating from the early 19th century, with the possibility of an earlier core. It was extended in the 1980s. The building is constructed of red brick and features a plain tile roof, brick gable and ridge stacks, along with a sawtooth eaves band. It is two storeys tall with four bays, plus a single-storey, single-bay addition to the south.
The west elevation showcases a semi-circular headed doorcase topped with a broken pediment supported by brackets, featuring a flush panelled door and a traceried fanlight below. On either side of the door are three-light cambered headed windows, which include central glazing bar sashes and fixed small pane side lights. There is a similar window to the south and three flat-headed windows above, with a single glazing bar sash positioned over the door. The single-storey section to the south contains a 3-light segment headed horizontal sliding sash window facing north and a blocked segment headed doorcase to the south. The roof of this section has been raised, and a lean-to was added during the 1980s. At the rear, the original house features a central staircase tower with a glazing bar sash window at landing level.
