Description
The Town Hall, dated 1861 and designed by architect Benjamin Wilson, is an important building located in the Market Place. It is constructed of ashlar masonry and features a slate roof. The building has two storeys and three windows, with pilasters that have elaborate capitals flanking each window bay. The ground floor and the central first-floor windows are round-headed sash windows, and the glazing bars are intact. Above the entrance, there is a porch with an archivolt and a pierced balustrade. Inside, the first-floor board room includes cast iron rails leading to a gallery and an arcade, with a curved end wall that has niches. The roof is supported by square beams on brackets. The Town Hall is part of a group of listed buildings in the Market Place.
