Description

Riber Castle is a large castellated mansion built in 1868 by John Smedley. The design features square three-storey towers at each corner, and the site is enclosed by battlemented curtain walls with out-towers. Although it is a late example of architectural pastiche and can be seen as a grand folly, it is a well-known landmark that stands out from a distance. Currently, the castle is unoccupied and in a state of ruin.
