Description
Willersley Castle, Cromford, was built in 1792 for Sir Richard Arkwright, who died before its completion. The architect was William Thomas of London. Constructed from freestone, the house is three storeys high with seven plain recessed sash windows, and features prominent stringcourses. The central section is characterized by projecting, full-height round turrets. The building is embattled throughout, presenting a large and severe castellated appearance within extensive grounds. The interior retains a notable oval hall with galleries on the upper storeys.
