Description

Wyaston Grove is a large house built between 1802 and 1803 for Robert Greville, who held positions as vicar of Bonsall and rector of Edlaston. It was later enlarged to the west around 1850. The house is constructed of rendered brick, with Welsh slate hipped roofs and rendered stacks. The east elevation, facing the road, has a symmetrical design of four bays, with three bays plus one. A chamfered plinth, bands marking the first floor and eaves, and overhanging eaves are distinctive features. The ground floor has four tall, slender windows with glazing bars, the upper panes of which are decorated with trefoil tracery. Above these are four further glazing bar sash windows, their sills incorporated into the first-floor band. The south elevation is partly in the same style as the east, with the remainder of the south elevation set back, and the main entrance located in the angle. The interior features a staircase with carved ends to the treads, stick balusters, and a wreathed handrail.
