Description
No. 7 St John's Street is a house and shop that dates back to the 17th century, although it was re-fronted in the mid-19th century with some minor alterations made in the 20th century. The building is constructed from rubble limestone and coursed squared gritstone, featuring ashlar dressings. It has a coped east gable and a shallow parapet on the red brick street frontage, topped with a plain tile roof.
The west elevation consists of two storeys with an attic and features two bays. There are 19th-century shop fronts on either side of a central doorway, with each shop window containing four panes, a moulded cill, and glazing bars. Below the blind box, there is a plain fascia and cornice. The central doorway is a 20th-century half-glazed door. Above the shop fronts, there are 20th-century imitation sash windows on the first and attic floors, all set beneath plain lintels. The plain parapet is topped with a shallow moulded cornice.
The rear elevation showcases coursed masonry with a gable that has moulded gable coping.
