Description

Holywell Cross Post Office, located at No 43 Holywell Street and including No 1 Durrant Road, has origins dating back to the 17th century or earlier. The building is likely timber framed and features a plastered facade with a brick eaves cornice and a slate roof, which has an off-centre chimney base remaining. It is two storeys high and has three windows facing Holywell Street. The first floor showcases late 18th century or early 19th century casements with two and three lights, complete with glazing bars. The ground floor features a southeastern door followed by a well-preserved early 19th century shop front, which includes an entablature with a cornice, architrave, and pilasters adorned with a motif, as well as original shutter hinges. The Durrant Road facade has a similar window with glazing bars. There are corner double doors with six panels below a chamfered corner leading to the first floor.

At the rear, there is a cross wing that forms No 1 Durrant Road. This section is also plastered and two storeys tall, though it is lower in height due to the slope of the hill. It has a stone slab roof and features one first-floor window with late 18th century or early 19th century casements and glazing bars. The ground floor has modern casements and a small window situated between the floors. The doorcase is decorated with pilasters and a cornice, leading to a six-panelled door.
