Description
Heage Hall is a house that dates from the early 17th century, possibly with earlier origins, and features an early 19th-century addition. It is constructed from coursed squared sandstone with stone dressings and has a graduated stone slate roof, complete with chamfered stone copings on the gables resting on plain kneelers. The east gable wall has a large stone external stack with twin diamond set flues, while the south gable has a brick stack, as does the ridge.
The building is two storeys high and has an L-plan layout, with a lobby entrance plan on the west range and a tall single bay 19th-century addition to the south, alongside a three-bay north range. The west range features an off-centre oak framed doorcase with a beam-moulded inner edge and a 20th-century half-glazed door beneath a bracketed 18th-century timber hood. To the right, there is a 20th-century casement window set in a recessed and chamfered surround, which was formerly a window with a central mullion. Above this, there is a similar window, and another window is located above the door. To the left, the 19th-century bay has a plinth and raised quoins on the left corner, along with two plain sash windows in raised surrounds, one positioned above the other, and a coved eaves band.
The north range contains a central recessed and chamfered three-light window with a drip mould, flanked by similar single-light windows. There are similar windows above in the same arrangement. The central ground floor window retains remnants of 18th-century leaded lights, while the upper central window has remains of 17th-century diamond leaded lights. The rear elevation features similar windows.
Inside, the hall has a large chamfered stone fireplace in the central room of the west range, and there is a substantial close-studded partition in the north range.
