Description
Heage Windmill is a tower windmill dating from the early 19th century, which was restored between 1971 and 1973. It is constructed of coursed squared sandstone with ashlar dressings and has a circular plan that tapers towards the top. The windmill has three storeys and features plain flush doorcases on the east and west sides, each with plank doors. On the north and south sides, there are 2-light glazing bar casements in flush surrounds, with similar windows located above the doors and an additional window to the south. The windmill is topped with an ogee domed metal cap that has six sails and tail gearing on the opposite side. Inside, it contains a dome to curb, a wind shaft with a brakewheel, and a wall over the main shaft that drives two sets of grinding stones. The floors and hoists are also intact. The information is sourced from F Nixon's "Industrial Archaeology of Derbyshire."
