Description

25 to 36 Long Row is a group of early industrial houses built between 1794 and 1797 by William Strutt to accommodate workers for the new mills and warehouses in Belper. This long terrace of stone houses is situated on a hillside and features a pitched slate roof. The buildings are three storeys high, typically with one window each, although some have additional small first-floor windows above the doors. The doors generally have cambered head linings.

Houses numbered 26 and 29 to 34 have sash windows with late 19th-century glazing, while numbers 27 and 35 feature modern bow windows on the ground floor. The other houses mostly have modern glazing in former sash spaces. Numbers 27 and 36 have had their facades sand blasted. The plans of the adjoining houses interlock to make the best use of the frontage, and stone kerbs surround each front garden.
