Description

The Hermitage is a structure built in 1761, possibly designed by Robert Adam. It features red brick, coursed rubble sandstone, and a crystalline white stone. The building is circular, measuring about seven feet in diameter, with walls that rise to approximately ten feet. The original thatched roof has been removed. There is a rough round-arched doorway on the north side, constructed from massive sandstone blocks that have a pitted finish. The side walls are made of random rubble white crystalline stone and include two square window openings. The rear wall is made of rubble sandstone. Inside, the walls are lined with brick.
