Description

The Lion's Mouth is a fountain built around 1763, possibly designed by Robert Adam. It is made of sandstone and features a low gabled structure set in a hollow, with a square plan. Three sides are rock-faced, while the fourth side has a vermiculated round arch that encloses a lion's mouth, which spouts water into a semi-circular pool. The fountain has a low pitched gabled roof adorned with dentil, egg and dart, and icicle motifs.
