Description
Lavender Cottage is a house dating from the mid-18th century, with 19th-century additions. It is built of coursed squared gritstone and features quoins, coped gables, a moulded eaves cornice, and two end ridge stacks, all topped with a stone slated roof. The building has an irregular 'T' plan and is three storeys high with three bays, including a 19th-century addition at the north-east end. Originally, it had stacked 2-light flush-mullioned windows, but these have been replaced with 20th-century casements. The central doorway is notable for its massive stone jambs and lintels, along with a shallow bracketed canopy above. There is also a single-storey and attic addition with 2-light mullioned windows, including one in a gabled dormer featuring rock-faced mullion and surrounds. At the rear, there is a single-storey range with a stone slated roof.
