Description

The Gables is a house that was originally built as stables for Lea Wood Hall between 1874 and 1877, designed by architect W Eden Nesfield. The building features regularly coursed gritstone with ashlar dressings and quoins, topped with a plain tiled roof that is hipped at the west end. A projecting stone stack is located on the north wall, which rises as a brick cluster stack above the eaves and has a corbelled cap that has been removed. The structure is single storey and consists of three bays, with a 2-light and a 3-light window in quoined surrounds flanking a former quoined central doorway. The doorway has been altered to include a casement window in the upper part and blocking masonry below. The Gables is listed for its group value.
