Description

The Old Police Station, built in 1848 by Strutts, is one of the earliest police stations in the country. It is constructed of ashlar with quoins, features wide eaves, and has a hipped slate roof. The building has two storeys and off-centre chimneys that are linked by an arch over the ridge. There are three windows, with the northern bay being recessed. The stone doorcase also has quoins. A rear cell wing remains intact. The station is prominently located opposite the Strutt Mills.
