Description
Hollins Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the 17th century, with possibly an earlier core and late 18th-century alterations. It is constructed from coursed rubble gritstone and features quoins, moulded kneelers, coped gables, and both intermediate and gable end ridge stacks. The roof is covered with plain tiles and stone slates. The house has a 'T' plan layout, with a lean-to addition at the rear.
The south elevation consists of two storeys and two bays, featuring 19th-century sash windows in projecting surrounds. There is a central doorway flanked by these windows, which has a chamfered quoined surround and a heavy lintel, with a 20th-century half-glazed door. A narrow band with simple cavetto moulding runs along the bottom edge of the heads of the ground and first-floor windows, stepping up over the doorway as a hoodmould. The elevation also shows the remains of single light 17th-century windows that are now blocked, while single and two-light chamfered mullioned windows can be found elsewhere in the building. At the east end, there are four-light mullioned windows leading to a cellar or former basement, featuring pointed heads to the lights, each carved from a single block of stone.
