Description

The eastern boundary railed walls and piers at Babington Hospital were built around 1838, although they do not appear on the Belper Tithe map from 1844. They are attributed to the architect Sir George Gilbert Scott and were designed as a workhouse for the Belper Union. The structure features a Jacobean style, with stone gate piers topped with pyramidal caps. The stone-coped wall is complemented by 19th-century iron railings in part.
